This tradition has historically been used as a way to prepare for Lent in Scotland by clearing away the cupboard of all the sweets. It has evolved into what is now known as Pancake Day. During the day individuals will make pancakes and add sweet toppings whether it is for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a late night snack. This tradition has been happening for centuries in Scotland and has recently been adopted even by those who may not be celebrating Lent.
